Calling all picklers! Join us as we "smash" into campaign season with a friendly pickleball tournament at Riverside Courts.

Participants play in a past Campaign Kickoff Pickleball Tournament

This round robin-style tournament will be held from 4:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at Findlay’s Riverside Park. Participants must be 18 or older and the tournament will feature men’s, women’s and mixed doubles.

The entry fee is $100 per team, and 100% of each team’s registration fee will go directly toward United Way-funded programming that serves 1 in 4 people in Hancock County.

Team captains will register both members of their team and ensure that each have signed their liability form prior to their first match. They will also rate their team using the standards below, ensuring a more fun and fair contest for all.

The winning team takes bragging rights and a custom trophy made by our talented neighbors at Kan Du Studio.

Rules: The tournament will follow official rules set forth by USA Pickleball.

Schedule: Opening ceremonies will begin at 4:15 p.m., with the first game starting promptly at 4:30.

Rating: Please utilize the following rating system to categorize your team:

2.0 = First timers/new to the game

2.5 = Players have limited experience, can sustain a short rally, and are still learning all the rules.

3.0 = Players understand the fundamentals and basic rules, as well as court positioning. They can construct limited points. The game is typically social and casual instead of competitive. More aggressive or athletic players might typically play at 3.5 - one level higher.

3.5 = Players know the difference between the hard and soft game. They can get to the non-volley zone consistently and are beginning to understand the benefits of "stacking." They may have an unrelated sports background that helps them learn new skills more quickly. Very athletic and/or aggressive players often may play up one level at 4.0.

4.0 = Players are able to identify and attack opponents' weaknesses, are aware of their partner's position on the court, and are able to move as a team. They may have a related raquet sports background that helps them learn new skills rapidly.

5.0 = Players are considered to be "semi-pro" or "pro."
