Days of Caring Volunteers

Days of Caring is a special, multi-day service event where volunteers lend a hand to help local nonprofit agencies and other social service-based organizations. United Way of Hancock County matches volunteer teams from local companies and service organizations with projects submitted by agencies for help. The volunteers then head out in force to complete projects such as landscaping, organizing, painting, planning an event, cleaning, construction — whatever is needed.

Days of Caring is held twice each year: A full five days in May, and three days in September.

In 2025, a total of 861 Spring Days of Caring volunteers completed 89 service projects for 36 different organizations in just five days. These volunteers provided 3,444 community service hours, a value to the community of about $119,820 (based on Independent Sector's 2025 value of a volunteer hour of $34.79). That's money these agencies were able to save and put directly toward their mission and services!
